Being part of a Sweet Pea family with over 50 years experience in growing Sweet Peas, spanning 3 generations, Darren has been growing and exhibiting Sweet Peas since the age of 10, and won his first national awards at the age of 16. Since then he has enjoyed continued success at both local and national level. He is also a national judge.
As well as acting as Show Manager for national shows, he is also currently the Secretary of the Yorkshire Sweet Pea Society and is heavily involved with the organisation of the Mirfield Sweet Pea Festival.
At the National Sweet Pea Society’s Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 10th March 2012, Darren was presented with the Jack Davis Award for outstanding services to Sweet Peas.
At the 2013 National Sweet Pea Society Late National Show held at RHS Harlow Carr, Darren won 4 top awards which included the best new seedling and also the best vase in show.
To add to his collection of awards, he won no fewer than 6 awards at the National Sweet Pea Society Late National Show held at Driffield in July 2014. Included in the awards was the prestigious Clay Cup, for the best vase in Show
